Apparently, as early as 2019, the directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa told Entertainment Weekly that Gosling only had to groom Stone with a seductive look. However, when they sat down with him to discuss the script, the La La Land actor talked about the time he actually did the Dirty Dancing exercise to impress a girl. And at the same moment they decided: “Okay, I’m going to the movies!” And although Gosling initially resisted, this scene became a fan favorite.
In particular, a screenwriter Dan Fogelman then created the scene on paper using Gosling’s patented swoon-inducing motion. The director also said that the two actors had practiced for several weeks to perfect the lift and therefore did not need any stunt doubles. “It’s harder than it looks, and it’s scary. Ryan really works hard. He’s a trained dancer, so he focused on making Emma feel safe,” Ficarra explained.
