Former Premier League right-back Alan Hutton has urged Manchester United to keep hold of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the January window.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton believes Wan-Bissaka can play a big role in the second half of the season at Old Trafford.
United have been linked with a swap deal Van Bissaka for Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters.
The defender’s time at United appeared to be coming to an end after he did not feature for The Hague in the pre-World Cup games.
Diogo Dalot’s excellent form and qualities more suited to Ten Haga’s style gave him the go-ahead in the early part of the campaign, but after picking up an injury at the World Cup, Van Bissaka was given his chance.
After the performance, the 25-year-old played well in his seven games and Hutton praised his performance after returning from the cold.
“Van Bissack was nowhere to be seen. Eric ten Haag came in, he gave him a chance when Dalot was away and I think he did a great job.” he said.
Speaking about a potential swap deal, Hutton says United should stick with One-Bissaka.
“I wouldn’t do it now. I don’t think they will return that money (money paid to United) at this point. Given his recent performances, I wouldn’t trade him.” he said.
Hutton said that in his opinion, Van Bissaka is one of the strongest defenders in the Premier League but admits he needs to keep the ball at his feet better.
“Going forward is where he needs to improve, defensively I think he’s one of the best one-on-one defenders,” he said.
To Van Bissaki the contract runs until 2024 before it expires following United’s signing from Crystal Palace in 2019 worth around £50m.
