“This notion that Casemiro was “fixed” for the transfer, as one source put it, was confirmed when a United delegation flew to Madrid a few days later to seal the deal.
Real Madrid representatives arranged a dinner with Casemiro in a last-ditch attempt to convince him to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, but he made it abundantly clear that he was only interested in a move to the Theater of Dreams, much to Madrid’s disappointment.
As a result, Casemiro dramatically improved United as a team. So far, he has more than kept his promise. Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot were given the freedom to bomb up and down the channels safe in the knowledge that Casemiro was anchored at the back.
The red devils allow an average of 0.6 goals and 8.4 shots per game with Casemiro in midfield, instead of 1.5 goals and 11.5 shots per game when he is absent.
The team also averaged 64.1 assists in the final third per game compared to 51.3 without him. The same upward trajectory can be seen in United’s possession, passing accuracy and crosses.
When United were doing their homework on the 30-year-old, they turned to Raphael Varane, who backed the move unconditionally and told them he was a must-buy.
Varane also told his team-mates that they should always try to give Casemiro the ball on the pitch as he will do everything right and exudes calmness.
Ducker adds this of Casemiro insiders say the player is happier at United than at any other stage of his glittering career.
