What happened to Jeff Beck?
One of the most successful, revered and influential guitarists in rock history, Jeff Beck, died Tuesday at a hospital near his estate in Riverhall, southern England.
On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing. After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he died peacefully yesterday. His family is asking for privacy as they process this tremendous loss.
Jeff Beck’s cause of death has been revealed
Jeff Beck, a famous blues-rock guitarist, has died. “Once I intended to write an autobiography. When I started writing it, I thought, “Let them look around when I’m dead.”
Jeff Beck, a pioneering musician, had this to say regarding his autobiography. Sadly, that book may be closer to completion now that it was recently reported that the creative musician has died unexpectedly at the age of 78.
What is known about Jeff Beck’s cause of death is listed below.
“He unexpectedly developed bacterial meningitis, and yesterday he passed peacefully. His family asks for discretion as they grieve this immeasurable loss. He was 78. The cause was bacterial meningitis, said his publicist Melissa Dragic.
What is bacterial meningitis?
Meningitis is an infection of the meninges that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. The membranes swell and compress the spinal cord or brain when they become infected. There may be problems that are fatal. Meningitis symptoms appear suddenly and get worse quickly.
Bacteria or viruses can cause meningitis. Viral meningitis is more common, but bacterial meningitis is more serious. It can lead to brain damage, paralysis or stroke. In some cases, it can be fatal.
Who was Jeff Beck?
On June 24, 1944, Arnold and Ethel Beck welcomed Geoffrey Arnold Beck into the world in South London. His father was an accountant and his mother a confectioner. In 1968, Mr. Beck admitted to Guitar Player Magazine that when he was a small boy, his mother “forced” him to practice the piano for two hours every day.
He noted, “That was good because it let me know that I was musically sound. Stretching exercises with rubber bands on tobacco boxes and loud noises constituted my other training.
After seeing Les Paul perform, he became interested in the electric guitar. He was later drawn to the playing of American guitarist Lonnie Mack and the lead guitarist of Gene Vincent’s band, Cliff Gallup. He began to be mesmerized by the guitar’s mechanics as much as its tone.
In a 2016 biography of his career, titled “Beck 01: Hot Rods and Rock & Roll,” Mr. Beck wrote in an article that “By age 13, I had built two or three of my own guitars.” Even just it was nice to look at it and hold it. My destination was clear to me.
In Rolling Stone’s list of “The 100 Greatest Guitarists”, Jeff Beck is ranked fifth.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell heaps praise after praise on Jeff Beck’s musicianship in his Rolling Stone review.
Running with the lemmings won’t get you a comfortable spot at No. 5. Even with the Yardbirds, Mike had a melodic yet direct tone that was both bright, insistent and edgy. He took the game seriously and went all-in. It was not booked.
the Grammy Awards
Oscar and gold
In more than six decades, he somehow managed to get his hands on eight gold records. He also won seven Grammys, including one for Best Pop Vocal Collaboration and six for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. As a member of the Yardbirds in 1992 and as a solo artist in 2009, he has twice been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In a statement on Wednesday, Mr Stewart claimed that Jeff Beck “was on another planet”. In the late 1960s he brought Ronnie Wood and I to the United States with his band, the Jeff Beck Group, and we haven’t been back since. One of the few guitarists who would really pay attention to me while I was singing live was him. My man Jeff, you were the best.
Tributes flooded social media for Jeff Beck
Fans and other musicians took to social media to express their grief at the passing of a man whose talent and perseverance were uncanny.
Joan Shaw Taylor
I wanted to share this lovely photo that my friend Rosie Bones shared. There are many things I could write about guitarist Jeff Beck. I think the shock and devastation that every living guitarist shares on social media today sums up his impact as a guitarist. He was the greatest. There’s a reason no newborn baby sounds like him, because they can’t. Including me. I’ve had the privilege of seeing him play live many times, I even got to open for him and then I got to spend time with him through my friends Rosie and @carmenvandenberg.bones. I always thought I’d be too intimidated to talk to Jeff, but he was such a super cool and wonderful guy. I will cherish these memories. Thank you Rosie and Carmen for this. My heart goes out to you and all who loved him.
Tommy Emmanuel
Jeff Beck was an original, an artist of the highest order and the ultimate guitarist that could not be copied but only enjoyed and appreciated!! Thank you for all your dedication, love of good songs and totally adventurous spirit!! Big big big respect! Tommy cgp.
Eric Johnson
Hearing about Jeff Beck is a shock. He was one of the most original guitarists I have ever heard. He never conformed to the guitar status quo or conventional playing, always reaching for a new dimension, which he achieved time and time again. He was the most expressive lyrical story-telling guitarist that ever existed, and that’s why non-musicians loved him. He won more affection from the public than other guitar heroes because he had such musical poetry in his playing.
Rod Stewart
Jeff Beck was on another planet. He took me and Ronnie Wood to the US in the late 1960s in his Jeff Beck Group and we haven’t looked back since. He was one of the few guitarists who, when playing live, listened to me sing and responded. Jeff, you were the greatest, my man. Thank you for everything. REST IN PEACE
Al Di Meola
Terrible news! Rest in peace, Jeff Beck! I remember growing up with Truth and Beck-Ola. Awesome! Later years between 76-79 I loved it when Jeff came to my gigs at the Hammersmith Odeon when I was playing in London! There was no other like Jeff! He had the most unique style In a very prestigious category! I can’t believe this!!! Sad day!
Stevie Van Zandt
“RIP Jeff Beck. I’m having trouble processing this. Not only has he been a great influence, but his genius has been an endless source of joy throughout my life, he was in great spirits when we spoke a few weeks ago after putting on a flawless show with Johnny the night before at the Capitol. Unreal.” – S.V.Z
