Have you seen the exchange of views between Stephen Colbert and Don Lemon for the latter’s clothes? It’s probably the least important thing that’s ever happened in the history of television, and I’m obsessed and I have to talk about it. Let’s support those of you who may not be aware.
So, Don Lemon was involved CNN that day this morning. I don’t know if you watch the popular talking head regularly, but when it comes to clothes, he’s a lot more adventurous than most news anchors. It goes far beyond the usual black suit and more often than not, his fashion choices are really popular. As someone who likes colorful buttons or something louder and more interesting, I support his choice and his desire to be bold.
Unfortunately, when you get a little more adventurous, other people will have something to say, and the internet collectively had something to say about one of Lemon’s latest outfit choices. You can check out this daring ensemble below…
Now I have to be honest before I continue here. I’m not saying it’s the best costume I’ve ever seen. It seems a little unfinished to get it on TV, but visually it’s quite impressive. Also, I’m all for a big punch; so i’m not saying she should wear it all the time, but i don’t hate it. I’d give it a C. I’d rather it try too hard than not try hard enough. However, I seem to be in the minority because many people thought it was the worst thing anyone had ever worn. Many of these critics took to Twitter to roast Lemon for her outfit choices and even spilled over into other TV shows, most notably with Stephen Colbert.
The late-night comedian talked about Lemon’s clothing choices during a segment on his show, and he couldn’t resist mocking him for it. Here is an actual quote from his teaser…
You know I love myself, Don Lemon. Dear Dear Don Friend, Urgent Soul Cycle Contact (but)…As a wise man once said, what the hell is this? I know they want to add comedy to CNN and it’s fun. How do you break the news with this outfit? How do you actually talk about the tragedy of it, because what could be more tragic than the way he looked this morning?… He looks like a school athletics teacher who went for a run and then got a little hungry and stopped in restaurant. but it was too sweet for the restaurant, and they said, “Sir, you must put on a jacket.”
The tone of Colbert’s mockery was very light and he talked about how he constantly watches and loves CNN this morning, but when Lemon was asked about the fry the next day, his tone was anything but light. He was laughing as the clip went on, but as soon as it ended and he was asked if he wanted to answer, he very quickly became very serious and gave a long, multi-minute answer that raised very serious questions. questions. Here’s a portion…
i love Stephen Colbert. I think he’s funny. Obviously, I think comedians should have some leeway, (but) it was interesting. I didn’t expect such a reaction. It was kind of a Rorschach test for me to wear this outfit. First, it’s not a hood or anything. It was a hoodie. Hmmm… I don’t know if I want to delve into this because I was actually quite surprised by it. Stepan, that’s the thing. I choose a lot of different outfits, and when I got this job, one of the things was that we want you to relax and feel more comfortable and kind of agree with what’s going on in the world right now. People don’t wear suits that often. Lots of changes since the pandemic, right? I was just curious that there was such a reaction because I got a lot of negative reactions online. I just want to say that a lot has changed. I understand better (how women feel) when they talk about women’s skirts and women’s clothes, their hair and makeup. Men have never been so thoroughly studied. I think (people should) enjoy the comedy. I think Barack Obama can be criticized for a brown suit. I wonder if Vladimir Zelensky will be able to fight with a hood. If Trayvon Martin can start a revolution in a hoodie, then Don Lemon can break the news in a hoodie.
Have you ever made a relatively light joke at a friend’s expense and touched a lot more nerves than you expected? It seems. This is like Stephen Colbert tried to score a little 2/10 shot and Don Lemon took it as a personal attack 8/10. It’s the worst feeling. You’re expecting maybe a good-natured middle finger after your comment and suddenly you hear that a weird and creepy picture in your friend’s living room of a clown that you said might haunt you in your dreams has a personal connection to their deceased grandmother and you just want to run out the door and escape.
Now, I’m not going to tell anyone what they should or shouldn’t be offended by. Apparently the political commentator sensed there was some heat in the joke and had to defend himself. I understand. A bold choice of fashion clothes sometimes leads to disappointment. There’s nothing that people who have never taken chances with fashion love to do more than point out people with bolder tastes and criticize them. It can get boring in a hurry, and even though Colbert dresses smart, he’s not known for pushing the boundaries too far. So, I understand where Don is coming from. There will always be haters, and when it comes to haters, Colbert didn’t seem to mean any real harm. Also, Don Lemon had never pulled a prank before.
Considering how dark it is Lemon seemed in his response, I was a little concerned that we might see a safer clothing choice in the future, but don’t worry, fans. Lemon vowed to wear the hoodie again, although she said she would accessorise it with other accessories as she doesn’t like to wear the same outfit twice. I can not wait to see him. Keep up the good work Don! You’ll hear it from some haters, but many of us like big swings, whether they’re to our personal taste or not.
