Speaking about the song in an interview with Rolling Stone, vocalist Damiano David said: “[The word] “gossip” means many things, but we chose it as a title because we think it sums up many of the issues that plague our society. faces today. The song as a whole talks about all the issues of the performance culture, the culture of perfection, the aesthetic culture. Social networks put a lot of pressure on the young generation. This is a critique of that with some irony.
Speaking to NME last year, David explained how “it’s pretty easy to find out what people expect from you. What’s not easy is not doing it. It’s very easy to get hung up on one thing and do it over and over again just to please your audience. You know, “If it works, I’ll do it again and again throughout my career.” That’s not what we want to do.
Speaking of the collaboration with Maneskin, Morello said: “When I heard there was a rock ‘n’ roll band from Italy that blew up the world, I thought, ‘Really?’ Come on.” Then when I saw them play live, I was blown away. They’re unashamedly loud, unashamedly sexy and unashamedly hot, and they deserve to be one of the standard bearers of rock and roll for the younger generation.
“I played with them at their studio in Hollywood. It’s a great band, everyone plays great, writes great songs, communicates deeply and meaningfully with their audience, and if you’ve seen them play live, the crowd goes.”
“RUSH!” is out on Friday (January 20) and was heralded by earlier singles ‘The Loneliest’, ‘Supermodel’ and ‘La Fine’.
After the release of the record, Måneskin will begin the European leg of their Loud Kids world tour, which includes a performance at London’s The O2 Arena. Tickets are available here.
