Charlotte FC later selected him in the 2021 expansion draft. In the Queen City club’s first season, he started 21 of 23 games, contributing crucial defensive strength and stability during a roller-coaster season on the field.

The Tottenham team

Woakes joined Tottenham Hotspur in July 2013 and made his professional debut there. On 21 September 2016, he made his first team debut against Gillingham in the EFL Cup, coming on as an 80th minute substitute in a 5–0 triumph.

In the UEFA Youth League group stage, Woakes made three appearances as captain, twice against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. He extended his contract with the team for a further two years on 27 September 2017, keeping him there until 2019.

After his loan spell at Atlanta United, Woakes briefly joined the reserve team before being sent down again.

Atlanta United Team

Prior to the club’s debut season on January 26, 2017, Walks joined Major League Soccer team Atlanta United. As a late substitute in Atlanta United’s opening-season loss against the New York Red Bulls (2-1), Woakes made his debut for the team, but soon scored an own goal.

Woakes immediately regained his first team place for the team, settling into the right-back position despite his injury concerns and an early start on the bench. On July 5, 2017, in a 4–2 win over the San Jose Earthquakes, he scored his first goal for the team.

His loan spell with Atlanta United was extended until the end of the campaign on 1 August. Throughout the remainder of the campaign, he continued to regain his position. Then, on September 14, 2017, Woakes scored his second goal for the team in a 7–0 win over the New England Revolution.

After making 20 appearances and scoring two goals in all competitions, Woakes returned to his parent club following the 2017 campaign. He felt his loan spell at Atlanta United helped him transition to first-team football as he looked back to my time there.

Portsmouth Club

Woakes signed for Portsmouth on loan in January 2018. On 3 February 2018, in a 2–2 draw with Doncaster Rovers, he scored on his debut for Portsmouth, making an immediate impression. He established himself in the starting eleven at right back after making his debut for the club.

On 18 July 2018, Tottenham announced the move to Portsmouth was final.
