Ken Bruce talks about the fate of his beloved PopMaster quiz after announcing he is leaving BBC Radio 2.
The 71-year-old TV host confirmed on Tuesday (January 17) that he will be leaving the station in March to join Greatest Hits Radio. Bruce has been the presenter of Radio 2’s Morning Show since 1992, after working in the same slot from 1986 to 1990.
“I’ve been here a long time and maybe it’s time to move on and let someone else try,” the DJ said in a statement.
Following the announcement, Bruce’s listeners expressed concern about the future of PopMaster, a daily music quiz that tests two fans’ musical knowledge.
This segment was introduced on of Bruce program in 1998 and usually airs around 10:30 a.m. each day. Currently, the winner can choose one of two prizes: a Bluetooth headset or a smart speaker.

Now Bruce revealed that PopMaster, which it bought the rights to when the quiz debuted, will continue its new Greatest Hits Radio show when it launches in the spring.
“I say [the show] is brand new, but will still have PopMaster, me and my reflections, and all the great records you know and love from the 70s, 80s and 90s,” he said in a statement about his new role.
“I can’t wait to get started and have you join me for my first show. See you in April!”
The DJ has released a series of PopMaster books and has hosted numerous Eurovision events, celebrities and live performances over the years.

Bruce is one of Radio 2’s longest-serving DJs. He joined the BBC in 1977 and took up the permanent position in 1984 (via BBC News).
The new show of The greatest Hits Radio is scheduled to begin on April 3 and will air from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM GMT.
