Walmart shooting in Indiana: what happened
Authorities responded to an active shooting scenario Thursday night, Evansville Central Dispatch confirmed. According to dispatch, it happened at the Evansville Walmart on South Red Bank Road.
The initial call came in at 9:59 p.m., according to Sgt. Anna Gray of the Evansville Police Department, when the police arrived, they entered the building immediately. Deputies and police officers from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office also rushed to the scene, searching the building for the shooter.
According to Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson, “we immediately teamed up with the Evansville Police Department and began looking for the threat.”
You may remember the Columbine model from years ago that describes how to take control of a situation by securing the location while waiting for reinforcements. We no longer follow this model. To reduce the number of deaths when there is an active shooter, we rush to the threat and eliminate it.
The threat has been neutralized and is in custody. Officers are clearing the area to attend to any casualties.
