The post-apocalyptic cat adventure game Homeless and the wildly popular roguelike shooter Vampire Survivors will compete with these three games in the Game of the Year category. The 2018 reboot of God of War won top honors at the 2019 DICE Awards, and it wouldn’t be surprising if its sequel picked up a GOTY in 2023.
Vampire Survivors is one of several games nominated in four categories; Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Tunic and Immortality also have four nominations.
A look at the nominees shows the tough Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year category. Dwarf Fortress might be the favorite, though this writer believes Marvel’s excellent Midnight Suns — runner-up in PC Gamer’s GOTY — should win. It’s good to see a very interesting game Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate — Daemonhunters also nominated.
At the gaming awards ceremony last month, Elden Ring received four awards, including Game of the Year, and God of War seven.
This year’s DICE Awards will be hosted by Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller and IGN’s Stella Chang; publication is the official media partner of the event and will broadcast the entire show live.
