Who was Denis Budimir?
On June 20, 1938 Denis Budimir was born in Los Angeles, California. Budimir taught himself to play piano and guitar when he was younger and fourteen years old. He had already started his career. He was a member of a Los Angeles quartet in the mid-1950s that also included La Monte Young, Don Cherry and Billy Higgins.
He assisted Peggy Lee and worked with Bud Shank between 1960 and 1961 before enlisting in the Army in 1961. After receiving his discharge in 1963, he toured Japan with Bobby Troup before back to the Los Angeles area where he spent several decades working as a studio musician and member of The Wrecking Crew. Joni Mitchell, The Carpenters, Brian Wilson, Barbra Streisand, Ravi Shankar, Frank Zappa, Linda Ronstadt, Julie London and Dusty Springfield are just some of the musicians he has collaborated with.

Soon after, Chico Hamilton led a mixed-race band performing angular post-bop on a cross-country tour that included Dennis.
