Carmel High School student and budding swimmer Michael Gent tragically passed away on Sunday morning, January 8th, 2023 Gent competes for the Carmel Swim Club and has done a tremendous job for her team over the past few months. From his freshman year, he was part of the high school swimming team and became the top swimmer in his school.

What happened to Michael Gent?
At the Olivia Apartments on Main, Jent was involved in a car accident at 5:15 am. Just east of Old Meridian Street, on West Main Street in the 1100 block, is where it is located.
It appears a car was traveling eastbound on Main Street when the driver lost control, crashing into the structure. The vehicle and building sustained significant damage as a result of the incident, according to a media release from Carmel police on Friday. The report said Gent was the only one in the car.
According to the TV station, Michael Gent was driving a vehicle on Main Street when he suddenly lost control and crashed into an apartment complex.
The Carmel Current said Gent, a junior at Carmel High School, was driving to swim practice. According to WIBC, he was the only person in the car.
The driver was identified by Carmel police as Michael Gent, a junior on the Carmel High School swim team. Gent was admitted to the hospital on Friday with serious injuries, but was pronounced dead early Sunday.
How did Michael Gent die? Cause of death
Michael Gent, a 16-year-old student at Carmel High School, died Sunday, January 8th2023 after sustaining injuries in a single-vehicle collision early Friday.
He was taken to the hospital for first aid. The building and Jent’s, located on the southwest corner of Main and Old Meridian streets, sustained considerable damage in the collision.
The 16-year-old also suffered broken ribs, a broken femur and a fractured head. He was given medical treatment to induce a coma, doctors said.

Principal Tim Fares informed CHS parents in an email that “Michael’s parents have asked that the community remember him and his family in their prayers and thoughts.” Swimming world took to the social media channel to confirm his departure as he passed away due to a fatal accident,
Carmel Police Statement
“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Gent family as well as the students and staff of Carmel High School as they continue to absorb this sad loss,” Lt. Tim Byrne of the Carmel Police Department said when the death was announced of Gent on Sunday.
Carmel police said, “CHS also requires any children who may be experiencing problems at home to call 988 to reach a 24-hour hotline and speak live with a counselor.”
“The road is closed until 9.30am on Main Street between Old Meridian Street and Grand View,” they said.
Tribute to Michael Gent
As word spread on Sunday that Gent had not survived, a huge memorial grew near the destroyed property.
Peyton Newkirksaid Gent’s younger brother’s friend,
“I was horrified and stunned to the bone and we were all hoping Michael would pull through. I just feel sorry for his relatives. The fragility of life is kind of crazy. The future is not guaranteed, Newkirk said.
Linda Watson tweeted: “Florida swimmer’s grandmother sends her condolences.”
Cassie Jackson shared this news with a heavy heart saying
“You can count on my prayers as I wake up the CHS swim teams, friends, teachers and administration as they head back to class today with grief.”
