What happened to Sal Piro?
Lilias Pirro announced the death of Sal Pirro on social media
Sal passed away. There are no words and I dreaded that day with all my heart. It sickens me inside to announce that the person I love the most in the world is gone. My big brother Sal passed January 21st peacefully at home. I will update everyone as I will be having a wake for him in New York. My life is over without him.
Cause of death
Sal Piro died January 21 peacefully at home. Sal was always at the national conventions and was such a fun and personable person who took the time to find out what was happening on the national stage.
The news of his death was confirmed through the social media platform and when people came to know about his sad demise, they started paying tributes to him on the social media platform and expressing their emotions.
It is with deep regret that I am the one to break some upsetting news to you, but I have to share some information with you. It was only recently discovered that Sal Pirro, who was head of the inaugural show at New York’s 8th Street Playhouse, had left not too long ago. This news came as a surprise to those working in the theater.
When the performance first started, it was Piro who directed it. It was Sal who originally conceived and formed the official Rocky Horror Picture Show fan club. It was also Sal who initially provided the foundational foundations of the organization. Since Sal came into our world, it will never be the same as it was before her, and the RHPS phenomenon in the form in which we are used to it would not be possible if it were not for Sal. Our world will never be the same as it was before Sal walked into it. Sal was a well-known figure at national conventions and had a well-deserved reputation as a person who managed to be both outgoing and approachable. He was also a familiar face at conventions. In addition to this, he makes an effort to educate himself about the events that are happening globally by reading newspapers and watching newscasts. His performance as a wedding photographer in the 2016 remake of the Rocky Horror Picture Show brought him the most fame. |
Sal Piro was president of The Rocky Horror Picture Show Fan Club, a position he has held since 1977. Pirro was part of the original audience at the Waverley Theatre, from which the unique audience participation elements and much of the film’s cult following were born.
This consequence became a worldwide phenomenon. Piro also appeared as himself in the movie Glory, as well as a number of documentaries, and had a non-speaking, untitled cameo – as a man using a payphone – in the Rocky Horror pseudo-sequel Shock Treatment. He also appeared as The Photographer in the 2016 television remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. As an actor, he has appeared in both cinema and television.
Pyro Author of two books
Pirro is also the author of two books on the Rocky Horror cult, Creatures of the Night and Creatures of the Night II. As described in an article in The New Yorker, Piro also plays a competitive Scrabble tournament.
Pyro was a beloved icon in the Cherry Grove, Fire Island, Long Island and New York communities. He was the manager of the Ice Palace and Grove Hotel for 23 years, as well as the executive producer of the Miss Fire Island pageant, Mr. Fire Island Leather and Miss Grove Hotel. His death was announced on January 22, 2023 by the Cherry Grove Community Association and the Arts Project of Cherry Grove via email to members.

Sad news to report. Sal Pirro, the founder of the official Rocky Horror Picture Show fan club and leader of the original show on the floor of New York’s 8th Street Playhouse, has died. Sal changed our world forever and without him the RHPS phenomenon as we know it would not exist.
RIP Sal Piro – founder of the Rocky Horror fan club that made the movie a cult phenomenon. I first saw him and footage of Alan Parker’s Rocky in Glory when I was 9 and my life changed forever. To this day I am a proud Transylvanian! pic.twitter.com/yL9lIRurcK

I have no words. I owe a lot to Sal Pirro. Sal was the first person I really felt like “saw” me. He got it. He knew there was something there. Besides beating me and making sure I worked even illegally, he protected me. Financially, I made sure I made a smart choice. I am eternally grateful.
Our lunches with Ariel Sinclair they were always a jerk. When we heard him running down the GIRLS hallway, we knew something was coming. There has been a change since I left Fire Island and I will forever cherish the time we spent together.
Thank you Sal for loving me. Thank you for seeing me. Thank you for being there for me. Thank you for wanting to make sure I was successful. Thank you for telling me the hard truths. Thank you for trying to protect me even though I wasn’t listening. I always heard you.
Sal will check in a few times a year via email, I’m devastated to know I won’t get another one.
