Four people have died as a result of a suspected Al-Shabaab attack on Bura East, Garissa County. Let’s see more about the Al-Shabaab attack in Garissa and how the KeNHA engineers died in detail.

Al Shabaab attack in Garissa:

Four people, including engineers from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), died in the attack.

According to reports, the deceased persons were carrying out a routine assessment of the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) corridor project.

The Toyota Hilux Double Cabin they were riding in exploded after colliding with an improvised explosive device (IED), according to authorities.

How did the KeNHA engineers die?

A suspected Al-Shabaab attack killed 4 KeNHA engineers who were on Old LAPSSET Road in Garissa.

The engineers were in a convoy of three vehicles traveling from Garissa to China’s Hailey Camp and then to Bura East when they came across an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the road which detonated as the convoy passed.

The explosion completely destroyed the first car, a Toyota Hilux Double Cabin with registration number KBV 502S.

After the attack, the remaining two vehicles in the convoy immediately returned to Camp Haley.

Three bodies were found at the scene, police said, and a fourth is believed to have died in the debris from the blast.

The same incident happened last year. At least eight trucks were torched by suspected al-Shabaab fighters in January last year. While they were working on the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) Expressway project.
