A knife-wielding man threatened customers and employees at the Walmart on Two Notch Road in Columbia yesterday afternoon.

Deputies were called to a local Walmart on Wednesday due to a man allegedly threatening customers in the store while wielding a pocket knife, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

“One shopper, veteran Demario Davis, was seen on video striking the man in the head, forcing him to drop the knife”

Who was Demario Davis?

Demario Davis, an Army veteran who was shopping there, captured the incident on film.

According to Davis, he was one of the group that helped bring down the gunman. Davis’ video captured the man being punched by other shoppers and made to put the knife down.

The group was able to detain the man until paramedics arrived, Davis said.

“My first instinct was to defuse the situation,” Davis said. “I went and waited until I had a chance to get it.”

Authorities say that after the event, the person in question was taken to a hospital for examination.

No charges have yet been filed in the case, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
