Mead took to social media on Friday to share the news that her mother, June, had passed away on January 7. “At 1am on January 7th, our beautiful, kind, funny mother and wife passed away after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. “She was surrounded by me, my brother and my father as she passed away peacefully.

“Our hearts are broken, a part of them will be missing forever, but now heaven has gained a special angel.
“If love could save you, you’d live forever.” I’m sad that you’re gone, but I’m more thankful for the time we had together.

She won Person of the Year

Beth Mead’s mother won BBC Personality of the Year. Alongside the tribute, Mead posted various pictures of her mother, some showing her mother supporting the Lioness at last year’s European Championships, which England won after beating Germany in the final at Wembley.

Although Mead’s season was cut short by an ACL injury, the 27-year-old was recognized for her contributions on the field. In December, she won BBC Sports Personality of the Year and was awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honors List, with her performances also earning her a nomination for the FIFA Women’s Player of the Year award.

Arsenal striker Meade has described his mum as his ‘biggest motivation’. It’s been a terrible year for my family and for her personally, but she’s been great, she added. “The strength my mom gave me off the field,” she said.

It was fantastic to receive the trophies and be happy in front of the crowd, but I couldn’t wait to go around the stadium to see my mum, dad and brother so we could appreciate and share the experience.

Yes, this summer was fantastic, but a lot had happened before that and I have to give credit to my family for their support in getting me to where I am now.

Bethany Jane Mead MBE is an English professional footballer. she plays as a striker for Women’s Super League club Arsenal and the England national team. She is a talented and prolific striker who holds the WSL records for most assists and second most goals contributed overall.

June led England to their first major tournament win at UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, winning the Golden Boot, Player of the Tournament and most assists. She became the first female footballer to win the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award later that year. She was also runner-up for the Ballon d’Or and UEFA Player of the Year awards.
