Mba Ifeoma Gloria and Eremezie Tochukwu Martin, an engaged couple whose wedding was scheduled for January 18, 2023, have been killed at Arondizuogu in Ideato North Local Government Area of ​​the state by yet to be identified gunmen.

The two were allegedly targeted by the shooters while riding in the groom’s brother’s tricycle, according to local residents. They were all killed on January 11 in a shooting in Arondizuogu.

Members of the community thronged the streets on Wednesday to condemn the perpetrators of the ongoing killings and kidnappings in the community.

They claim the attackers broke into their neighborhood and are known to rob owners of shiny cars and kill them.

The leadership of the state police has not yet commented on this unpleasant situation. State Police spokesman Michael Abatham confirmed the incident.

According to a resident who spoke to journalists about the incident, the problem of reckless carjacking and arson has persisted in the neighborhood since last year.

Community member reaction:

A local resident said: “A young man who was on his way home from his wedding was killed in his village yesterday evening (Tuesday) with his fiancee and brother who was carrying them in his Keke (tricycle). This happened in Ndiejezie Izuogu in Imo State Ideato LGA.”

“We complained about this reckless kidnapping, killing and burning of vehicles in Arondizuogu last year and the police spokesperson assured me that something is already being done about it.”

“But since then, killings and kidnappings have been happening every day. No residents of Arondizuogu returned for Christmas and New Years. The few who came could not drive their cars. As we speak, there has been a mass exodus of people from Arondizuogu this morning (Wednesday) following last night’s incident.”

“The car dealers specialize in stealing shiny cars and killing their owners if they refuse to let them go. Other times, cars are burned in the process. We are no longer safe in Arondizuogu. Students are afraid to go to school; our mothers no longer go to markets for fear of the unknown. Please help us before we are done.
