A 4-year-old girl from Cyril, Oklahoma is still missing after she disappeared earlier this week. Let’s see what happened to Athena Brownfield in detail.
What happened to Athena Brownfield?
Athena Brownfield has been missing since Jan. 10, and authorities are appealing for the public’s help in the investigation.
According to OHP Trooper Eric Foster, Athena Brownfield has been missing since last Tuesday.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) sent infrared aircraft, boats, four-wheelers and people on the ground to search the neighborhood.

Foster said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon that “we were in the air with infrared helicopters, on the ground, around town there were a few web searches on foot and on four wheels, that kind of thing.”
“Our ERT, or Emergency Response Team, is specially trained to go on foot looking for people and things, outside in coordination with civilians who have come and willing to volunteer their time and effort.
Bureau PIO Brooke Arbeitman acknowledged this information, saying:
“We are still very actively looking for her using all our tools. We’re finding things that we hope will give us clues as to where she is, but we’re still actively looking for her.”

The investigation began on January 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. when a mail carrier reported finding Athena’s five-year-old sister near their home.
The mail carrier reported the incident to Cyril’s police station and it was then discovered that Athena was missing.

Authorities are asking anyone who has a residence or business in Cyril and has a video doorbell camera to come to Family Life Church and notify law enforcement.
According to a family member, she is extremely shy. The exact date on which she disappeared is currently unknown.

Police are looking for the missing girl:
Dogs from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections assisted in the search, according to the report.
“This is a very active and ongoing investigation and right now our top priority is to find her.
And it should be understood who is responsible. We have to find this little girl,” Arbeitman said.
“She is alone in the elements. So is this in danger? yes But is she a victim of physical harm? That is yet to be determined.”
That ground search continued all day Wednesday, but was called off after volunteers searched “the entire city,” according to Arbeitman.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) completed its search of the grid with the help of neighborhood volunteers today at 4 p.m.
After checking the entire city, every known vacant house and nearby waterways, those volunteers were released, the OSBI said in another statement Wednesday afternoon.
The statement said, “The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (OBNDD) has flown their drones over the community, and the Oklahoma Department of Corrections (ODOC) now has sniffer dogs in the area.”
On Tuesday afternoon around 2 p.m., Athena was reported missing after a postal worker found her 5-year-old sister alone near their home in Cyril, which is about 70 miles southwest of Oklahoma City.
The older girl was said to be frightened but did not require medical attention. It is unclear how long she was missing before she was reported missing.
“We’re still working on putting together an exact timeline,” Arbeitman said.
The location of the girls’ parents or legal guardians at the time of Athena’s disappearance is unknown, and no details are currently available about the residence where the children were staying.
Asked who was supposed to be watching the girls Wednesday morning, Arbeitman said, “That’s part of the ongoing investigation.” The 5-year-old child was placed under guardianship.
