“Kokdu: Season of Deity” is a new fantasy novel that tells the story of a grim reaper named Kokdu (Kim Jong Hyun) who descends into this world every 99 years to punish people. When Kokdu meets Han Kyo-chol (Im Soo-hyang), a doctor with mysterious abilities, he starts working as a doctor at home.
Just like her colleague Kim Jong Hyun commented on the script in her interview, Im Soo Hyang also noted that the script was so interesting that she finished it on the spot. For Im Soo Hyang, who has always wanted to try her hand at fantasy or historical drama, “Kokdu: Season of the Deity” was a project she happily accepted.
Im Soo Hyang shared that she had to delicately interpret two characters, Han Kyo Chol and Seol Hee (her hero from her past life), to portray the intertwined destinies of two who had completely different lives in different periods of time. She explained, “In the case of Han Kyo-jol, I tried to emphasize the bold and lively character, and in the case of Sol Hee, I portrayed her as a shy woman in love.”
I’m Soo Hyang also talks about the chemistry between Han Kyo Chol and Kokdu. She said: “I think they probably fight more than any other romantic drama couple. I want [the audience] to look lovingly at these two who look like a perfect couple but bicker like Tom and Jerry.
In conclusion, the actress commented, “I hope ‘Kokdu: Season of Deity’ will be remembered as spring. In the drama, Kokdu symbolizes winter and Han Kyo-jeol symbolizes summer. So we can say that [the drama] depicts falling snow in midsummer. Spring is the time of year that connects these two signs. I hope it will be remembered as a drama that gives thrilling moments, like when you see cherry blossoms in spring after winter.”
